After Runge
Philipp Otto Runge was a Romantic era painter and draftsman whose research into colour was a central tenet of his work. Runge was convinced that the full spectrum of our visible world could be represented by red, blue and green, anticipating the technology of contemporary digital photography’s RGB imaging. A friend of Goethe, Runge died early in his life, and his work informed Goethe’s Zur Farbenlehre, published in 1810.
These images imagine a version of Runge’s coloured world.
